What questions should i ask during a doula interview?
What drew you to this work and why did you continue?
What did your training or certification process look like?
How long have you been doing this work OR how many families have you supported?
What will our prenatal sessions look like?
How will you help the supporting parent feel confident in their role?
How many other families do you take on at a time?
Who do you use for backup and what does that process look like? Will I get a chance to know them ahead of time?
What was your first concert?
We find it helpful to interview 2-3 people when deciding who will fit best personality-wise with the whole family. It’s important that everyone feels connected; that each person can ask questions and feels heard when sharing their needs/preferences. If you are confident in their expertise and skillset, then the first thing you’re looking for in that 45 minute consult is, “would I want this person around when I am feeling a wide range of emotions, during a new and unfamiliar experience?”
